. The Bay Area Women?s Cycling Clinic was hailed as a big success this year, thanks to McGuire Cycling team volunteers and donations from McGuire Real Estate. Held on Saturday, April 23, and Sunday, April 24, under mostly sunny skies though the weather forecasts predicted rain in Palo Alto, the Clinic drew about 45 participants and 11 volunteers. Participants included 5 juniors who were fully covered by McGuire Real Estate scholarships; volunteers included McGuire Cycling rockstars: Elaine Cheung, Monica Gill, Bruce Johnson, and Virginia Solomon.

Nicole Freedman (professional cyclist, 2-time U.S. National Champion, former member of the U.S. Olympic Road Team, founder of the Ford-Basis Women's Cycling Team), with assistance from head coaches, Lauren Gaffney (2-time medalist at National Championships and winner at Collegiates) and Annabell Holland (bicycle mechanic and medalist at Track Nationals), led a dynamite clinic. Content included training, equipment, maintenance, bike handling, cornering, pack riding, pacelining, hill climbing, descending,
sprinting, and racing basics.

Also, sports psychology consultant from Sonoma, Carrie Cheedle, and bicycle fitter, Ari Bronstein from City Cycle bicycle shop in San Francisco, gave outstanding talks. Participants learned everything from breathing to reduce stress, reducing anxiety in a race, and changing cleat position on the pedal.

Elaine, Monica, Bruce, and Virginia assisted with registration, classroom set-up and take-down in the morning, as well as drills in the afternoon. When not assisting, they listened to the speakers and participated in the drills.

A good time was had by all. Comments from participants included the following:

? ?Thank you again for organizing the clinic. It was exactly what I needed and the coaches were fantastic.?
? ?[I liked] the multiple drills. I feel much more confident on the bike? I am so happy I came! Good job gals!?
? ?The Clinic was very organized.?
? ?I?m leaving the 2-day clinic a different, better ride than when we started.?

Thanks again McGuire Cycling team and McGuire Real Estate for all your assistance!
