Metromint Cycling teammates Monique Quandt, Rob Collier, Julie Baird and Laurie Simonson joined over one thousand other riders in the memorial ride for Matt Peterson and Kristy Gough on Saturday March 15, 2008. Matt Peterson, who raced for Roaring Mouse, and Kristy Gough, who raced for Third Pillar, were killed by a Sheriff's Deputy just one week prior while on a training ride. The memorial ride started at Foothills College and wound sloemly to the crash site where many riders placed flowers or other rememberances. Along the route to the crash site, many people stood at the side of the road to offer their support. One woman stood in her driveway with tears rolling down her cheeks watching the cyclists go by. As a testament to how close the cycling community is, every Bay Area and some Southern Calirfornia teams were present with the Webcor team assisting with traffic control. Metromint Cycling will miss our fellow competitors and sends its thoughts and prayers to the family, friends and teammates of Matt and Kristy.
