I know what you've been thinking . . . You've been sitting around saying to yourself "life in San Francisco is so dull, what on earth can I do exciting for Labor Day weekend?" I have the answer for you! Bike racing!!!! The Giro di San Francisco will be held in your very own backyard over Labor Day weekend. "Giro" is Italian for "this is the most fun you can have legally" or "tour" as in Tour de France. The French take a whole month off to watch the Tour de France so why don't you be all European and go to a bike race on your holiday weekend? Don't miss it! It'll be the best thing you do all year. There will be lots of excitement, kids races, crashes… Yes sometimes things get a little carried away.
The race will take place Monday September 1, 2014 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Men's and women's races will take place throughout the day at Levi Strauss Plaza, Battery and Union Streets in San Francisco. The event is part of the 2014 California Cup as well as the Graffiti Road Race Series. Throughout the day, over 800 amateur and pro racers will take to the course to test their mettle. Past winners include three-time Tour de France winner Greg LeMond, former World Champion Karen Brems, two-time Olympian Eric Wohlberg, two-time Olympian Kent Bostick and National Champion Helene Drumm. Kids race will be at 12:40 and is open to kids under ten years old. The event concludes with the men's professional race starting at 3:00 pm. The event will also feature and expo area with food and other vendors.
